Orbit is a 2-player video game designed for Atari by Owen Rubin. First released into the European market in 1978, Orbit features two spaceships that look suspiciously like Star Trek’s 'Enterprise' and a Klingon battle cruiser. The players pilot their respective ships around a central star while attempting to blast the enemy. Rather than a set number of 'lives', gameplay was purchased in increments of time and the options such as gravity strength and space stations could be toggled on and off at any time, allowing for epic and varied battles. When your ship is hit by an enemy shot, you might be destroyed or maybe just have a chunk of your ship blown off, reducing your maneuverability and firepower. You can attempt to dock with your matching space station to repair your ship and live to fight another day. |
